Massachussets is leading the nation in government shakedowns on non-conformity.  Peter Quinn, former CIO of the state of Mass. decided that OpenDocument made the most sense for state users as a standard document format.  After all, it’s a well defined standard with many available editing programs to choose from, all well supported.

The fine state government shot that down and moved to call his sexuality into question, as well as the parenting status of his mother and to state he’s Un-American and makes rude gestures at small children.  Or at least that’s about the level of their response, if not the content.  Peter Quinn ended up giving up his job rather than put up with the irritation of providing the best document standard for the state.

Now the whole switch is being legislated against, as if there is some reason why it shouldn’t happen.  Political favoritism at it’s finest.  Check the link and hit up Groklaw for an interview with Peter Quinn.
