Microsoft, ever the proponent of.. well.. Microsoft, basically, is coming out against the idea of the inexpensive laptop for impoverished communities so they can get some form of education and instruction.  While MIT wants to bring information to the third world (yes, grain yields and weather are important) Microsoft wants to toot it’s own horn and release some press around the subject.

They’ve put out that they think everyone should just hook up their cheap 500$ Microsoft phone to their TV set and be happy.  Of course, you can’t actually do that.  But I think Microsoft is so used to just issueing press releases these days to try and cripple competitors with rumours of their own product that they don’t realize this isn’t one of those situations.

Next thing you know they’ll be releasing a CLI based Windows that’s GPL’d licensed… at a future date.  So no need to look at those other operating systems.  Really!
