To resucitate a tired meme, Verisign has decided it’s going to keep all expiring domain names for private re-sale and that it owns, in perpetuity, the .com domain.  No more of that nasty re-licensing for them, no-sir!

Basically, we’re getting screwed by the US Defense department on this one.  ICANN doesn’t even hold any sway over Verisign, as they’re not the one writing the check.

Isn’t it great to know that America is a neutral party in handling the domains?
