The EU commision is not taking Microsoft’s “the source code is the ultimate documentation” bait. They were actually surprised that Microsoft tried this tact, as they had already refused this as an option.
What they’re looking for as part of the monopoly ruling settlement are server protocols, those bits of documentation that make interoperability easy between applications. If Microsoft doesn’t actually have any published server protocols for it’s products… then they’re more than likely crap.
If they do, and they’re just not releasing them, they’re simply defying fair competition. Which seems par for the course.
