Journalists seem to already be backing off the Google cheerleading. While that’s not going to signal their demise (or at least curtailed growth) the fundamentals behind the company might.
Loads of intelligent people really don’t pay off unless you can apply them at some problems that will end in the creation of capital. Which is what many an IP firm designing chips has found out over the years. Transmeta, for instance.
So if google is just snapping up collegiates without a real purpose to drive them toward, a go do something for us attitude, if you will, I can’t see that continueing to work for them.
