Once again showing that they’re asleep at the wheel, the USPTO has granted a patent on.. er.. all rich media web applications. That’s right. Apparently, the past 20 years never happened and someone over in California has suddenly discovered the web equivelent of the wheel and patented it.
This sucks. Our (and I mean we the people here) money is being spent on bloody useless patent fights against companies that are no way legitimate in their patent holdings. We’re the ones who foot the bill, even people not in America, by having to pay higher prices because some dick in California now has a patent on what all of the media companies we purchase from use.
When those media companies have to defend their legitimacy in using the online equivelent of air, we all suffer.
