Looks like I’ve once again given the boys from Redmond a bit too much credit.  Since they don’t want to publish interoperability specs, they’re now trying to court public opinion against the EU in the .. er.. EU.  Good luck with trying to prove you’re a nice, fuzzy, soft corporate behemoth from America to the folks over there guys, it hasn’t worked to well here.

Basically they’re trying to pull an end run around having an open standard for interconnecting to their suites of software.  That would break up some of what they use to monopolize the market, and MS seems to be out to protect it’s burgeoning server business at all cost.

And besides, they didn’t have to break up their monopoly for the Americans.  Only fair that everyone get whacked across the pond as well, eh?
