Alright.  So the MPAA finally noticed USENET and binary file transfers via RAR and parchive.  Had to happen sometime.  What strikes me as odd is that anyone that comments on the subject always includes a little snippet about how “if only they’d sell us reasonable product on fair terms, this would all go away!”

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but it’s not going to happen.  MPAA/RIAA litigators are even now homeing in on their long running goal of DRM on every CPU, every drive, and every piece of hardware coming into the country.

So why bother giving you decent terms when soon you won’t even have the liberties you now enjoy?  They’re going for the whole ball of wax while the people their opposing sit around and bemoan that the Labels don’t do enough for them.  If all I had in mind was profit motive, forcing everyone to come to me to distribute anything sure sounds like a good idea.

So don’t worry.  Pretty soon, not only will you folks going on about “how they’re really just defending there rights, and golly, wouldn’t it be great if they could just sell us stuff at a reasonable price in the format we want” be screwed, but you won’t even enjoy the liberties you have now.  The rest of us are just along for the ride, apparently.

MPAA turns attention to USENET, takes on Torrentspy, Isohunt, others
