Seems that I’m not the only one to be peeved by AOL’s Proposed Ghettoization of e-mailers that don’t want to pay their e-mail tax. 50 odd commercial interests and thousands of users are voicing their concern for the taxation of e-mail to make “extra sure” it gets to it’s destination.
Whenever infrastructure providers start to selectively block traffic based on something other than it’s own merrits trouble is bound to happen. After all, they’ve just created incentive to block any non-paying party. Why not simply block any traffic that doesn’t pay the toll!
Of course, with the way AOL is hemmoraging users this might all be a moot point. Hopefully those last few million trickle away as their service becomes ever more redundant and costly in the face of gratis or low-cost alternatives that offer better features.
