LinuxWorld 2006 1st Day
BostonWorlds wrapping up for the first day. The second keynote by the Athena Health CTO Bob Gatewood was a bit of a letdown. Not that there was much to be said for it.. basically they use Linux to some extent and that’s about it. There’s not really much of a contribution back aside from that the ostensibly employ some Linux jockeys.
Joomla! have an altogether interesting CMS together. They’re the “open source project” offshoot of Mambo and are gearing up for their next big release. They’ve also got a live video feed of their show floor booth if you’re interested.
Red Hat took some time out to talk up what they’ve got going on with Intel. Namely, opening up new future product showcase centers in North America, India, and Germany. I’ve got a quick interview with Bret Hunter that’ll be going up on PCBurn touching on the finer points of that.
Rom-o-Matic is always well represented. Millions of roms later it’s still being served up by extra hardware in it’s founders basement. Amazing, that. Also, he was talking up a method of burning flash eeproms with nothing more than a 3Com 509c NIC (everyone’s got one of those, right?). This’ll certainly merit more inspection.
OpenOffice.org is certainly at the show. They don’t have too much “new” going on, as they’re currently taking a breather and maintaining version 2.0 of the office suite. Any of their discussion on the next point revision is still in the “pushing thoughts around” stage.
I’ll have more later. Currently the “Golden Penguin Bowl” is going to be going on. I’ll let y’all know who wins.
