Blu-Ray. 1,500$(USD). Is it my imagination, or are the manufacturers of these devices confused on which century we’re inhabiting?
Back in 1980, high end electronics were low yield, expensive to produce, largely small run items. ICs (integrated circuits) hadn’t taken the playing field quite yet and devices required many components.
Currently you only need a chip, a wee bit of circuitry, and whatever solid state devices run the sucker (motor, lazer, etc).
While we might have been happy to pay 1,500$ for the latest gadget back 25 years, nothing will fly in the current marketplace at that price. Witness all the other Sony “innovations” like the Mini Disk and memory stick. Wide adoption there, eh?
But I guess they think we’ll smile and shovel out the cash simply for the pleasure of using their IP to do something we already have an adequate device for. Me, I’m a little less sure.
