We don’t often get random metal detector shakedowns here in the states. I think bringing commerce to a standstill is the bane of American living. See the situation over on the ports.
But over in Britian they’re big on the whole metal-detector-runthrough thing. Funny as that part of the article over at El Reg is, it’s not what caught my eye.
No.
Around here, we have amnesty where you drop off a (potentially) illegal weapon and don’t get put in jail for possesing it. Because hey, you’re giving it up, right?
In Britain apparently they’re giving up their knives. Next they’ll be having a blunt object hand in. Bring your lamp, no questions asked!
Sometimes I think they’ve just got far to little to do with their time. The metal detector thing doesn’t detract from that theory and the knives deal cements my possibly incorrect assumption.

“Which presumably makes the recent police knife amnesty, where quantities of knives were actually handed in, a failure, right?“
