Overall I like the reporting at the Register.  They’ve got a sense of fun to go along with their tech reporting that adds in some “flare” to an otherwise hum-drum topic.

But they occasionaly slip out “facts” in articles that are anything but.  These “facts” are more of the nudge nudge, wink wink, we all know this to be true variety than anything concrete that you can substantiate with numbers.

Such as this “fact”

It has turned out to be largely a good thing that the internet has this “free” ethic, although it has also sponsored large scale content piracy, and destroyed some of the best content businesses in the world,

Did I miss something?  Aren’t media companies, in fact, doing better than ever?  Where are these “destroyed” content businesses?

Also, guys… AOL as a content business?  Give your readership some credit.  AOL was an ISP that forced crap content down the throats of it’s customers that didn’t know any better.

That crap content will not be sorely missed as their customers walk.  This is not a sad day.
