While the USA .gov is waffeling over domain control and making more concilatory noises they’re still planning on maintaining control of the system with an iron fist.
All this while claiming that they’ve got our best interests in mind. As long as our best interests are paying more for domain names.
Now. I don’t care who carries the servers that host the DNS resolution of internet IP addresses. Really.
But when ICANN authorises Verisign to charge me more money for a domain name that’s upkeep costs them less, I get pissed.
So I’m less than pleased that the .gov has maintained authoritarian controll over the process. From where I’m sitting, it looks like they’re simply trying to maintain a monopoly for a few of their friends to make a metric ton of money off.
To the detriment of not just the American people, but peoples world wide.
